spinning wheels and televisual feasting
Nov. 15th, 2004 10:46 pmEver have one of those days where no matter how furiously you work at it, you feel completely ineffective?
Yep, one of those fell in my lap today. I think the coffeemaker setting off the smoke alarm was the first bad omen (fixed, gratefully [crosses fingers]). The second was the biscuits I was making for work not rising as I'd like. Irritating, but my co workers seemed to like them anyway - at least my secret identity as BiscuitMistress is still under wraps! :P
After a day of much furious tail-chasing, I settled down to watch the teevee:
Regency House Party part 2: Some historic fashion aficionados hate this show and other "historical reality" tv, continually bitching that the producers should have cast proper re-enactors who would know how to behave. I disagree - if I want to watch people who know what they're doing in an 1811 country house, I'll rent "Emma" :P Besides, I don't think I'd do any better if I had to stay "in character" for 2 solid months, and I confess the sadist in me enjoys watching them misstep - often wildly!
Highlights: this episode, the women ordered/trimmed their dresses for the Summer Ball, and the men resurrected the Hellfire Club. Next week - what's that girl doing on the buffet table? Enjoying this one very much.
Henry VIII on Masterpiece Theater - er, not so much. What's Henry doing with a Cockney accent? He looks/acts ok but they should have put him through voice lessons. And Helena Bonham Carter manages to make Anne Boleyn, historically a plain but exciting girl into a pretty but boring one.
Not sure why I'm watching this one, actually. They've butchered/grossly oversimplified the story in the first part and don't even start me about the costumes (put your hair up, dammit!) I guess the masochist in me hopes eternally that they'll redeem themselves in the 2nd half. Besides, I hate to leave things half-finished.
I'm hoping for a better day tomorrow. Today just felt utterly...
