Sorry if I've fallen silent here the last couple of days. Just not much to say, really.

Saturday D. and I went out to the National Book Festival. Due to late start/delays on Metro, we only caught the last 10 minutes of Neil Gaiman's talk. It was as interesting to see him "live" (albeit from far away - rather scruffy and quite funny) as it was to see the fans - a huge crowd that clapped and cheered enthusiastically when he finished up :)

We hadn't planned to get anything signed, and I'm glad of this - seeing the length of the line (while looking for [livejournal.com profile] geekchick was a strong deterrent :P

We also sat in on Lynn McMasters Bujold's talk and caught part of Cokie Roberts. Both of us managed to resist the improvised bookstore and just enjoyed walking in the near-perfect fall weather :) I'm glad I got D. out of the house, if only for a couple of hours.

The last two days have been mostly reading and doing laundry. The former: started Gumshoe Gorilla (enjoying it muchly! I love the futuristic Atlanta run by fundamentalist Baptists mired in scandal and the attempts of the Cherokee nation to get the northern half of GA back) and started/completed The Fourth Horseman (several years out of date, but offers a "holistic" perspective of epidemics that I don't often see).

The temperature has dropped and my motivation has dropped in time with it. Also, things are just getting on my nerves. No one particular thing - frustration with my writing style of late, my inability to cope socially as I'd like, nothing really new, but is bothering me anyway :/

To my great shock and awe, I actually have work tomorrow (Happy Thanksgiving to Canadians, happy Columbus day [and federal holiday] to those in the States), so I'm thinking my best plan might be to have a cup of chamomile tea to make myself sleepy enough to get back on schedule. Maybe I'll post more about these little irritants later - if they are still irritating me.

Oops! Also meant to say that I'm glad you're enjoying the 2nd Gumshoe and that you managed to find/also enjoy "The Fourth Horseman". I keep hoping that the latter will go into a third edition ... it DOES need to be kept up-to-date!

The version my library had is from 1991 (!) - desperately in need of overhaul, or maybe a sequel including latest findings (of which there are many!)

My copy is the revised and updated edition published in 1996 ... a third edition is DEFINITELY overdue!
