Went to the dermatologist today; turns out I am suffering from nothing more than bad, localized acne (which, happily, is currently healing up). He prescribed a preventative gel and an antibiotic in case it ever flares up again (which I will most likely not use - I can't see using an antibiotic for mere vanity). Speaking of vanity...

Given that I was there in the office, I asked the Dr. about my thinning hair problem. His verdict: it's lack of iron, malfunctioning thyroid, or the Depo. No problem for me - if it's the price of childfreedom/sanity, I'll happily pay it. If it gets very bad I'll just shave my head and make myself some wigs :P

I had an acne breakout recently! Not on my face like a normal person but just one giant throbbing boil on my hip! My hip I tell you! I only discovered it when I accidentally brushed it when I was dressing and it hurt. HURT! I thought it was a bug bite. It was stinging and BURNING. So I rushed to the hospital. RACED! This was about 7am, and I have a friend doing rounds at that ungodly hour and I managed to grab a hold of her and show her the INFECTION. She works in intensive care and is of course NOT any kind of skin specialist, but she told me to calm down and go home and finish dressing as it was just a really big PIMPLE.

I tell you, several times I've come close. I'd get a crew cut if I thought for a second it would look good on me (hairstylist malfunction in college assured me it doesn't, unfortunately)! Hair = work. The ancient Egyptians had the right idea - chop the real stuff, save the fancy 'dos for wigs!

Ack! I know what you mean! The onces on my neck and jaw were so bad I was sure they were insect bites or allergies - but not a common zit :P Truthfully though, I'm glad they're something fairly mundane and preventable!

Nizoral can help a bit with the thinning (http://www.thebaldtruth.com/products/nizoral.htm) - this study was done on men, but I figure, can't hurt, might help. I'm using it twice a week and I CAN say I'm not getting any worse.

What I'd really like to find is a dye or shampoo that leaves just enough deposits to thicken up the individual hairs a bit - volumizers just make them stand on end. Not good :P

I think my own loss is at least in part due to age as well - can't stay young forever, I guess. D. suggested growing it out if it will help (a BIG step for him, as he lurves his short haired women ;) ), but I still think shearing it would be easier/less obvious.

Dude! I'm having acne issues as well! Wish I could get to a dermatologist! I take a damned antibiotic everyday too. Not for the acne, it's a prophalaxis for malaria but still!

And I have the hair thing too. I know it's a pain to do a pill everyday instead of a shot once a month but I'm on ortho cept and it's totally helping. Get your testosterone checked. They all told me thyroid too for ages and it's wasn't at all.
