Had a half-day at work today. I've gotten myself into another cycle of going/doing/going/doing and with something after work every day this week, I really just needed to crash and burn, hard! I came home around 1:30 and read/napped until around 4:30 and I really, really needed that!

What I also need to do is delegate out some of my social organizing obligations (getting everyone to come to fencing club, leading book group, etc.). I can do it, I just don't because I want everything done my way. MUST knock that out!

D. and I watched "Chicago" tonight as a means of chilling out, and it worked marvellously - I knew it was all singing, all dancing, all (fantastic!!) costumes, but I didn't realize that it wasn't just "Cabaret part II" - an interesting meditation on fame and media. High points: I don't want to know how hard all the actors had to practice to do their singing/dancing numbers, truly a joy to watch! Queen Latifah worked it (if you've seen the movie, you know the scene I'm talking about - some dresses are really more impressive on big ladies!). Was it just me, or did Renee Zellweger look like Clara Bow, only skinnier? I think it was the hair...

Have also been listening to the Lemony Snicket audio books, as recommended by my mom, [livejournal.com profile] geekchick and others. They are wonderfully morbid and not excessively simple - rather like the Harry Potter books they don't "talk down" to kids and the author isn't afraid to scare them either ;) Can't wait for the movie.

Small moment of pride: did go fencing last night, and won several of my bouts, including against one of the CCFC regulars. Turns out said regular won 3rd place at some National competitions a couple of weeks ago. And I beat her, 5-3. I so rock sometimes!

For the weekend - still more going/doing, but I'm going to try and cancel one thing.

And being the doom-sayer that I am (and because this is what happens to me), what happens then? Because all the things you put off come back in a huge pile then, don't they? My schedule is so darn busy all the time if I put something off it many times makes it worse in the long run. I have so much going on all the time, I'm stumped, frankly, at how to dig myself out.

The two things that I have found that help are 1) saying no if you need to and 2) delegating, or at least sharing responsibility. Interestingly, I'm finding it easier to do the former than the latter, as I still want things done my way :P
