Was seized with a "flat place crisis" (or rather, a dirty floor crisis) and spent much of the day cleaning. In my frenzied excavation of piles of paper I found a long-lost ad for a military uniforms calendar by Sally Queen & Associates, the woman for whom I've been freelancing all these many years. So, of course, I set upon my collection of her publications like a rabid dog, looking for the copy I surely received at some point to scan for the site.

And of course, guess which calendar I DON'T have!! Yep, the very same :P At least the list of museums is still on the site, I have some idea where to ask, at the very least!

I've been doing the site for at least 5 years; one would think I'd have the good grace to look through her materials first when I was starting my hussar research, but of course, NOOOO, the last place I start to check is my own bookshelf :P Needless to say, I feel rather stupid just now...

In good news, at least, I found the donut beads. They were in a plastic, not paper, bag, which is of course why I missed them, even though they were in plain sight :P

Also mopped and vacuumed - I figured, I'm on a roll, why not? I still managed to find time to read in all 3 in-progress books and watch "Fifth Element" for the nth time; Jean-Paul Gaultier had fun with that movie :)

Back to the basement cleanup - I may find that calendar yet!

Hey, next time you're suffering from a crisis of that nature, come on up for a visit! ***grin***

And thank you so much for the reassurance that I'm not the only person to tear a household apart, looking for something in the wrong container/packaging. :P

I love cleaning! My house is spotless. When I visit my folks, I go into my sisters' bedrooms and make the beds if they are unmade. I especially love bathroom products. Oh and I found a new bench wipe recently that is vanilla scented. Very nice. I have this old knitted pair of socks and I glide/walk around on the floorboards downstairs with a little furniture polish on them to shine up the floors. lol, perhaps I’ve been living alone for too long!

You LOVE cleaning?! Great! Come over here and do my house too!

My new favorite friends are Chlorox wipes for the kitchen, and Greased Lightning for really difficult cleaning jobs - I think this stuff could eat through napalm!

Oooh, oooh! That reminds me of John Travolta singing Grease Lightening.

Grease lightning
go grease lightning
:D

My "favourites" (if you can call any cleaning supply that :P ) are the microfibre cloths ... they'll clean up just about anything using plain water (one DOES try to be environment-friendly). Especially happy at finally being able to clean windows and mirrors without leaving streaks or smudges (allegedly streak-free cleaners never DID work for me).

May I steal your microfibre window cleaning method? – I usually do a general sweeping wipe then spend a long time rubbing the surface in little circles to combat the streaks. Your technique is certainly much more efficient, though less of an arm workout. ^_^

Well, it's not MY method ... it's the method on the instructions I got with my first microfibre cloths (which I got from a private home business before they started appearing in department stores). The trick is to use two cloths. Use the first cloth, wet, to get the dirt, etc. off the glass, rinse it and use clean water to make sure the entire surface is wet. Then use the second cloth, dry, to buff up all the water on the glass. You shouldn't have any streaks if you do this, as long as the water doesn't get a chance to evaporate (do a big window in sections) ... any tiny streaks should buff off quite easily with the dry cloth.

Lovely, thank you for the tips.=) I can't wait to clean some glass - especially those huge glass doors overlooking the courtyard. Now if only this dreadful rain would stop!

I have to tell y'all how amusing it is to have such two enthusiastic housekeepers commenting on this thread! Can I adopt y'all? I hate to clean!

Do you do bathtubs/toilets? (pleeease!)

LOL - joke if you must! :P

Actually, I tried this toilet freshener (the ones you hang on the bit under the seat?) and it smelled refreshing and was all bubbly and blue, however it left this gritty white residual stuff in the bottom of the loo! So I ended up having to clean it with a toilet brush anyway. GRRR - I was so annoyed. :D

Now YOU'VE frightened me ... will long-term living alone cause me to become domestic???!!!! ***shivers***

lol - hey, it beats actually leaving the house and going to a gym to work out. ^_^

I'd find it difficult to name anything that didn't beat going to the gym to work out (or even staying home and working out, for that matter). :P
