D. and I have a running joke that Spice is not entirely unlike Crookshanks from "Harry Potter" - red, stripey, and too clever by half (I swear, she knows when we're planning to trim her claws :P)

I comment because she was unusually friendly today - this is a cat that normally plays hard to get, like a feline Scarlett O'Hara :P And when she's happy, she sheds - there is fur everywhere - I don't know where she gets it from! If only I had her powers of hair growth...

Nothing really of substance to say here, except cats are wonderful companions. They're not pets, they're more like small roomates who lack opposable thumbs.

The burning question is ... does being happy make her shed? Or does shedding make her happy and affectionate? ***teasing grin and pondering what a different world this would be if cats had thumbs and could operate can openers***

If mine had thumbs they'd be opening doors to get to the chipmunks in the hedge and make their little lives miserable and short :P

If that's what they want, then you'd better keep an eye on the fuzzy killer-wannabees; back in Lethbridge, one of the neighbour's cats HAD figured out how doorknobs operate and did occasionally manage to open a door (generally was attempting to get IN to the homes of folks who had given him treats in the past) :P

Ah, a cat of priorities and intelligence. Sure he wasn't a kneazle too? :P

Seriously, I think mine could manage it if the knobs were wooden or some other surface where they could dig their claws in. Those chipmunks better be thanking their lucky stars for brass every day of their lives :P

"Intelligent" wasn't a word one would normally apply to Beau ... in all other cat-respects he wasn't too bright (his other main claim to fame was his habit of walking up to people he liked and peeing on them), which made his sudden discovery of doorknob manipulation quite amazing; he could manage metal if the mechanism wasn't stiff. My friend Tammy and I watched him manipulate and open her metal-knobbed door; took him several tries since he had to be at full stretch to reach it, but we could clearly see that he was working at turning the knob (one paw moving upwards while the other moved downwards), so he obviously knew how the thing worked. =O
