weekend in review
May. 9th, 2004 11:04 pmThis weekend I was determined to get D. out of the house for something, preferably something he enjoyed doing.
We got up very late, so that ruled out the new science museum, so D. suggested the new WWII memorial downtown.
Note to potential tourists: never, ever take a car into DC unless it is absolutely unavoidable! :P Beyond parking issues, D. finally found a space and we had a short walk to the memorial itself, which, I thought, was fittingly grand yet understated, quite elegant.
The Mall was packed, but it WAS a beautiful day - high in the 70sF and not a cloud in the sky :) Even my allergies let me be enough to enjoy the fresh, moist greenery (I'm still enjoying that "wow, I can see every single leaf and twig" new contact lens effect). Spring only lasts, oh, a week or two here before it's blazing hot and humid every day, so I'm glad we got out at the right time :)
This week - finishing up the laundry, covering the chair, and hopefully seeing "Van Helsing" (I know, the reviews aren't great, but it has leather costumes and Hugh Jackman sans greasy ducktail, so how bad can it be?)

Date: 2004-05-10 07:40 am (UTC)Make that a day; high 80s-low 90s every day this week with humidity, woohoo.
hopefully seeing "Van Helsing"
We saw it Friday night. I thought it was a fine piece of cheese (lots of eye candy); there was a little bit of scenery-gnawing going on, but it's not like I went in expecting Shakespeare so that I'd be disappointed. KB Toys already has the Van Helsing and Anna action figures, which may need to be added to my office collection.

"The world snapped into focus. I could see mountains, trees, barns! I could see flowers and blades of grass and even ants crawling on the blades of grass. I hadn't seen ants in a year. I thought they had become extinct. It was ... fantastic!"
