week in review

This week at work the floodgates opened. It's a pattern I'm starting to notice; the beginning of the month a lot of internal research is published and we get hit with the relevant announcements. One very nice thing: a customer complimented me for getting an item online quickly and correctly, "wish everyone in [the institute] worked this fast" :) Sometimes it's the little "attaboys" that make the difference!
I called the eye dr. before leaving work in the tiny hope that my glasses might have come in - no such good luck; hopefully Monday. My mom likes to point out that it's the microscopic pollen that triggers allergies - that may be so but the visible, granular kind does a good job of cementing up my tear ducts! At least I've avoided the dreaded dust mites so my skin is healing up :)
Stopped off after work for $3.99 Vogue Patterns at JoAnns and stepped into the middle of a home decorating sale, which was good luck because I need to recover my sewing chair. It's very stable, perfect height for the machine... and has (or rather had) ancient upholstery that Miss Spice expressed her distaste for in a wet, stinky way as only she can :P Got cushion foam and upholstery remnant of gold-beige sateen stripe - not glamorous but not as wanting as the brown/red/black/now peed upon original covering!
Trying to get in touch with my sister who wants me to visit this summer. I want to and have vacation time, it's just a question of whether I can reasonably take it in the middle of peak vacation time/peak work on new project at work. I'm sure I can pull it (crosses fingers).
Book stuff: finished The President of Good and Evil, which my sister wanted me to read so badly that she sent me a copy rather than let me wait for my turn at the library :P Impressive - no screaming left vs. right rhetoric; this thing is so somber and well reasoned it could have been written by a Vulcan :P The author concludes that Bush isn't as grossly incompetent or "evil" as much as he is a man with too "black and white" of a world view to make nuanced decisions on a national scale. Worth reading if you want clear, concise, and non-inflammatory criticism of Bush's ethics.
Now I'm working on the Stephanie Barron Jane Austen mystery ("The Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor" - linked elsewhere) - I know, it sounds cheesy, but it does work, it's a pleasant read. It's also a decent mystery on the grounds that I haven't figured out who the killer is yet :)
Back to filing, and a bit of hand sewing...

Awwww - - (pouts) What fun is that?
After all, if it weren't for inflammatory criticism, politics would be no fun at all! ;)
