How sad that a broad mind can simultaneously be so narrow. Yes, say that these achievements may have to come one at a time, but "I don't approve"!!!!!?????? SHEEEESH!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad I'm a product of much science fiction reading where our projected future includes chain marriages, group marriages and other departures from the ol' fashioned twosome ... a major factor in the birth of my #1 life rule: Anything goes as long as all parties are willing (before someone asks, I define willing as being able to comprehend a situation and give assent ... anybody who is incapable of that cannot truly be "willing").

What a wonderful thing legal polygamy would be ... children and aged would be looked after (because there's always somebody with a domestic streak), while caregivers would have support and relief, which would reduce abuse cases. The ability to pool incomes and resources could reduce financial and housing worries and the stress these incur ... savings on public health dollars there. Sharing of household maintenance, more REAL leisure (which translates again into lowered stress). I can think of lots of other social benefits as well ... guess it must be REALLY dangerous if it's so good for us ;-)

See, you've got the right idea! And you make EXCELLENT points regarding the social/economic benefits of living in such an extended family.

Let's not just speak of polygamy though, but also of polyandry - I'm sure there are some women who would love to have multiple husbands! ;)

***chuckles*** I doublechecked that one in the dictionary before I posted because something in the back of my brain was nagging me about a misused term. Polygamy is a generic term for multiple mates (but is frequently misused to mean only wives ... probably because that is the more common polygamous situation); polyandry is multiple husbands; polygyny is actually the correct term for multiple wives.
