Attn: [livejournal.com profile] patgreene - not all Christians are as asinine as the ones comparing themselves to "blacks under apartheid":

(Chicago, Illinois) Nearly two dozen Chicago area priests in an open letter have denounced the Vatican's anti-gay rhetoric, calling it "vile and toxic...

"As priests and pastors we are speaking out to make clear that our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters are all members of God's family, brothers and sisters in the Lord Jesus and deserving of the same dignity and respect owed any human being," the letter stated.

Disclaimer: I'm not Catholic and never have been; as far as I'm concerned the Pope can go jump in a lake on this one. However, I'm always pleased to see when any religious tradition is bold enough to question dogma.

Yes, I did see it. It seems that it's the Bishop of Chicago who holds this view, not the priests who signed the open letter. I still give those priests props for recognizing that the LBG individuals deserve respect, even if they can't get their boss to admit that.
