I suspect fencing looks very fancy on film ;) my brother-in-law used to fence when he was younger, quite successful too as he made it to the national team, not that he made it into movies though. I remember he looked abit funny in the summer when wearing shorts because one if his legs were significantly more muscular than the other from always putting it forward in his fancing stance.
Yeah, there is that tendency towards asymmetry with fencing. I always try to do footwork and practice on both sides but my right shoulder is still stronger than the left - hazard of the sport!
