women respond to bass (?)
Sep. 8th, 2003 09:03 pmWell, everyone responds to "infrasound", according to this Reuters article. British researchers think it might explain haunted houses. I don't know much about deep sound, but this explanation seems more scientifically-based than claims of ghosts.
The idea of infrasound generated by weather patterns or seismic activity might also explain why hauntings/other weird happenings appear to fall along "ley lines". Could be that all of these "mystical" places that fall along the lines were built there after centuries of weird experiences caused by this phenomenon.
Disclaimer: yes, I'm interested in weird stuff, but I do approach it cautiously.

Date: 2003-09-09 05:10 am (UTC)You might want to look into temporal lobe seizures (http://dubinserver.colorado.edu/prj/cba2/p02.html) - Kevin Randle, a UFO researcher thinks that activity in this part of the brain might explain both religious experiences and ufo "abduction" experiences (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0312872704/qid=1063109348/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/102-5535272-4444159). Needless to say, UFO believers hate him for this :P
Note: this might only explain religious *experiences* - as for explaining religious belief, that's another post :P
