jury duty?

I just got paperwork in the mail indicating that my name has been pulled for district court jury duty. And yes, regular jury duty is an inconvenience at best, but district ups the ante: I have to go to the courthouse every Monday morning. For 3 months.

I have no intention of shirking my civic duty, and I doubt I would have a valid excuse to get out of it anyway. But DAMN, this is going to crimp my style, if only because they're asking me to be across town, at 8:30 in the morning, during winter!

This doesn't start until October, so I'm off the hook until then. Has anyone else ever been called for district jury duty? As of now I forsee myself checking out many library books and steadily increasing my morning coffee dosage :P

In other news: refreshed the catnip in the catnip toys. I suspect this will make me very popular once their eyes return to normal size. Also discovered that brownie mix + chocolate chips = insane atomic brownies from hell!! Will twitch while waiting for eyes to return to normal size :P

I got jury duty last september or october. Seems to me I called some automated thing a lot but didn't luckily ever have to show up. Once a woman on the phone (yup, a real live person that time) said that I was so close to done that I needn't worry about it anymore and that day I got another notice in the mail.

So, I really feel your pain. How do they expect people to do that? Every monday? Puhlease.

I know how you feel, I had to do jury duty while working 2nd shift. I never had to serve, but I still had to report in every week, and if I was done by 12:00 I still had to go to work. I thought it was very unfair, which is one reason why I called working at DURA Hell.

Try to appear unreasonably sane ... that'll likely get you disqualified in no time ;)

insane atomic brownies from hell!! Hmmm ... somewhere I have a brownie recipe that starts with melting half a pound of butter, then stirring in brown sugar and cocoa to make chocolate goo ... the resulting brownies are actually a cross between brownies and fudge ... ***becoming very chocolate-hungry just thinking about 'em***

Always glad to oblige fellow chocoholics. Just took a while to locate correct cookbook; knew which it was, just not WHERE it was.

Fudge Brownies

1 cup (250 mL) butter
1 cup (250 mL) white sugar
1 cup (250 mL) brown sugar
2/3 cup (150 mL) cocoa
3 eggs
1 cup (250 mL) flour
1.5 tsp. (7 mL) baking powder
1.5 tsp (7 mL) vanilla
1 cup (250 mL) walnut pieces (optional)

Preheat oven to 350F (180C). Melt butter in a large pot over low heat. Add both the white and brown sugars and cocoa to the butter and blend. Remove from heat. Break eggs into small bowl (do not break directly into hot mixture or they will poach), beat with fork, then add to butter/sugar mixture. Mix well. Sift flour and baking powder over mixture and stir. Add vanilla and walnuts. Pour batter into lightly greased pan and bake for 25-30 minutes. Let cool at least 15 minutes before cutting.

Oh, these look GOOD!!!! Must find excuse to make them - Atkins is a cruel mistress (or would that be master?)

I have Mr. Atkins duct-taped and hidden in the closet these two weeks. Vacation is NOT a time to diet - although I am trying to watch carbs, 4 layer chocolate pie does NOT count. I'll just let him out when I get home, no damage (well, at least not too much) done.

Burp, but a most lady-like wipe of the lips with my napkin.

Calories don't count if you eat it on vacation. Also true if it's dessert when you have company. In fact, if you eat diet food on vacation it actually counts as NEGATIVE calories! ;)

So.... the more I eat on vacation, the thinner I get, right?

Oh, Allison... I KNEW there was a reason why I loved you!!!!!

If you eat diet foods, yes, absolutely! If you eat greasy/fried/fatty/sugary/otherwise bad for you food, you will certainly not gain, but hold steady - you're on vacation, right?

Now.. if you have company while you're on vacation, that might push everything over into negative calories. Mathematically this makes sense, I'm sure ;)

And if the company is your main squeeze (the obvious benefit contained therein) you'd lose pounds each and every day....!

Thanks! So there's a whole cookbook of goodies like this one.
Sounds deadly. Only one problem-if I truely indulge this desire I become the poster boy for Michelin tires...

Remind me to tell you sometime about the variation on the cocoa cookies that can help you dance all night! :P
