anotheranonI finished the futon coat today! Let there be much rejoicing! I was really wanting to finish it so I could actually WEAR it. It looks great, if I do say so myself.
Only great news of the day. Winter skin has set in and I'm both dry/itchy and greasy/broken out at the same time. Lotion=scaly skin with grease on it - not appealing. My lips are so chapped that neither cocoa butter nor Carmex help much.
Giftmas officially arrived with the umpteen catalogs I got in the mail today (in addition to the almost biweekly stuff from JCrew and Lands' End). I have found some things that my family might actually WANT for the holidays, so shopping will be easier than usual, but I just hope I can find it all online because visiting the maul could trigger my inner Grinch.
I always have great ambitions of giving blood for Xmas, or helping out at a soup kitchen, or similar - not because I'm some great altruistic person, but because the enormous orgy of gifts gifts gifts, while fun, leaves me just hollow.... so much preparation for The Day that The Day itself always feels like a letdown. I've never done it of course, if only because I get so lazy in the winter and the holiday is a good excuse not to bundle up and leave the house (at least not until its time to go to the movies)...
But of course my opinion is practically heresy to many people who really do live and die by the increasingly longer Christmas season, the more expensive decorations and gifts, the cheesy music, the enforced ritual of "It". And much as I try I can't get out of it - no one wants to play along.
Damn, this turned into a Christmas rant. Probably the first of many, the way I always go off at this time of year.
I say lets have an old fashioned Saturnalia with the parties, drinking, and bonfires in the street.. oh wait, that's New Years'.
