More proof that actresses don't look like that

Jamie Lee Curtis, non-glam version - she's on a mission to de-glam herself. Given that her career depends on her looks, I'll give her mad props for sheer nerve!

Actually, considering that she's in her 40s now, she doesn't look THAT bad au naturel, does she?

I think she looks great!

I think she looks GREAT!!! That's because the de-glam piccy has a genuine smile while glam photos tend to have grimaces. The strongest physical attraction I have to other people, female and male, is keyed on their smiles (not on so-called "perfect" smiles or white teeth or lipstick colour, but REAL smiles ... my #1 attraction point is to minds rather than to the physical, so guess we can call smiles my #2 attration point), so remember to smile naturally at me and I'll perceive you as gorgeous all over ;)

I tend to agree, not just about the smile but the face in general - faces are always more interesting than bodies, IMHO. And aesthetic beauty and sexiness often have little to do with each other, anyway - it's often all about the attitude!

I find it fascinating that of all my recent posts, this and the other one about actresses without makeup have received the most commentary. I wonder why that is? Maybe it's just refreshing to know that oh thank doG, no one is that "perfect"! It lets the non-famous masses off the hook to realize that Jamie Lee Curtis has wrinkles, large thighs, etc.

Personally I find it fascinating that Hollywood and the media are just now taking tiny baby steps into reality rather than impossible ideals [yeah, I know, they backslide a lot, but at least something is starting to happen]. Growing up in Canada, I was raised on a large proportion of British television and films [my parents preferred 'em to American, so my childhood was made up of Monty Python and Carry On movies ... explains a lot, doesn't it? ;)], so I was used to seeing REAL people on the screen rather than barbies and kens. Brit productions still make up a large percentage of my television viewing and my video/DVD collection and I tend to be very out of touch with "popular" films and shows and personalities.

Sad but true story of how glam affects the younger generations; when my oldest nephew was five, he was playing in the living room while my mother was taking a break and watching a taped Brit mystery. Tot pipes up to ask Grandma why none of the people on the TV are beautiful. That's a sample of how young an age all this appearance fixation affects people! Nephew turned 16 in June, so the affect age is likely much younger now ... if something doesn't change soon, we're gonna be building clinics for anorexic 6-month-olds!!!

I think she looks faboo in both shots.

Jay Leno

Yeah she was at Jay Leno's and talked about those pics, and how she wanted to change the worlds way to look at getting older and looks. Jamie was absolutely smashing in that show :).

She is a very strong woman and I admire her a lot for having the guts to show her real 'me'. I always liked Jamie now I like her even more.

*G* she did say that she was worried that she would not get any more roles, but it did not take long until she did get on because of the pic's

You inspired me to dig up and share actress Dawn French's views on women looking like themselves instead of squeezing into a fashion template (Dawn French is the comedy partner of "Absolutely Fabulous"'s Jennifer Saunders). She made a marvelous documentary called "Dawn French on Large Women" several years ago (which is available on VHS). Around that time she had a number of glam nude photos taken as a gift for her husband (comedian/actor Lenny Henry) and allowed some of them to be published in order to promote large as beautiful. There's an article at http://dawnfrench.tripod.com/big.html and I found one of the photos online (several are shown in the documentary) at http://www.fortunecity.co.uk/cinerama/horror/95/dawn_french.jpg An attitude every women should aspire to, no?

Yes, I'm familiar with some of French and Saunders and definitely the Vicar of Dibley! These photos look great - she has awesome skin (assuming it's not photoshopped...)!

I've seen a few comments on Dawn's skin in articles and interviews, all mentioning how lovely it is, so I suspect it's the real thing (or else that any photoshopping is minimal). 'tis possible ... one of my former co-workers is in her late forties and has creamy, invisible-pored skin with only the faintest trace of lines around her eyes (and never wears foundation or other facial makeup, so I know it's the real thing). Just think of it as another reason not to be underweight ... one needs those fat cells under the facial skin to prevent wrinkling ;)
