a day

I have a whole new respect for the miserable hours (7:30am-4:00pm) that D. is enduring. Getting up in the cold and dark sucks; I imagine it'd be even worse if I had D.'s problems getting to sleep.

I know this because my car's been in the shop and D.'s been driving me to and from work, which has meant a couple of 7-5 days. Yesterday wasn't so bad: I was mentally vague but after sitting at a desk for ~10 straight hours I had a furious urge to jump around and lift heavy objects, so I did.

Today, though, I nearly fell asleep after lunch and the reviving cup of coffee was not only nasty (I still taste the layer of "soot" on my teeth) but bothered my stomach.

I have my car back (hurrah!) and on any other night I'd stay in, but I'm dragging out to fencing because I have a competition Sunday and I'd hate to not get any practice at all between now and then.

Sewing front: progressing nicely! It's amazing how putting the little buckles on the vest has revived it from "chore" status to "YES! I got the fit right!" I'm also indulging in a bit of mad hattery on the side.

No sewing tonight, but I feel compelled to link to a sample article by Susie Bright regarding sewing - turns out she's not only a damn fine sex blogger but has a section over at Craftzine.com as well. I've said it before but people are more likely to read her than me: it is diabolical that commercial patterns assume a B cup (PDF).

Not completely unexpected - the stars did not align; the magic just didn't happen on the strip this evening. I know why - I'm tired and my stomach's still upset, and besides, everyone has an off night.

I still feel like a wuss though :P I fence in a club with fencers twice my age who can clean the floor with me and still kick ass tomorrow, and I'm all undone by one day of short sleep.

I'll get there, I'll get there....

And totally cool non-fencing related thing via [livejournal.com profile] danicia - Captain Kidd's ship found: "It is remarkable that the wreck has remained undiscovered all these years given its location, just 70 feet off the coast of Catalina Island in the Dominican Republic in less than 10 feet of seawater."
