I'm in ur library, readin ur bookz
Dec. 23rd, 2006 10:14 pmBeing a book fiend, needless to say I love libraries. Where else can one enjoy books and not have the responsibility of finding shelf space for them?
I went down to the Textile Museum library today to do some preliminary research for a possible future costuming project. It's a small, cozy library and I went on the chance that being so close to the holiday, it would be relatively unpopulated - I was right :) I was able to sit down for a couple of hours and take notes on 16th century Spanish clothing without distraction, finally getting down there after my first visit (this past winter? Spring?) that left me swearing up and down I'd go again :P The librarian even remembered me (!?), so that was very helpful.
Even more library goodness last week when I visited the new local library branch - brand new and I'm guessing at least double the space of their old location. Large and airy is nice, but my gut reaction on first visiting was "now they have room for even more books".
Tangential - I've enjoyed walking around in the unseasonably warm weather - I figure these might be some of my last chances to walk around outside before the real winter weather sets in (aberrations aside, it still never really snows around here until Jan./Feb.). I've got to say though, it's disorienting to see all the people sitting at the outdoor tables at Starbucks even though the dead trees and sunlight both say "December".
