the almost-debacle
Oct. 16th, 2005 07:56 pmGot a late start on the way to the Fingersmith screening downtown and was trying to add fare to my Metro card but kept getting a repeated "invalid transfer". Thought it was the kiosk, but got the same results at the local ATM.
What goes through my head? Of course, the worst possible scenario - credit card fraud. By the time I get home (about the time FS is to start) I'm convinced that somehow someone got my card info and my accounts will be empty, even negative....
One panicked call to the bank later and I discover - it's just that my card has been demagnetized. All my $ is still there. Crisis canceled, mischief managed, but man, I hate scares like that!!
To come down/cool off I decided that even though I'd be late, I'd paid for that ticket doG-dammit, so I snagged a handful of change for fare and headed down to the theater. I got there only an hour in (this was a 2 part miniseries - so less than halfway through). Very plush theater (though not as posh as the AFI Silver), I got a seat in the back.
They did do intermission, which gave me a chance to 1) look at cute girls and 2) see if anyone I knew was there. Plenty of 1), none of 2). I enjoyed overhearing all the reactions to the plot twist at the end of the first half ("I'm going to need 10 minutes just to process that!")
Watched the rest (lots of gasps in the 2nd half) and got on Metro to go home, somewhat calmed down and enjoying my cushy new boots (yep, sprung for the cheapie mock-Westwoods) - wonderfully squidgy and soft step to them. So the day was recovered somewhat.

Big full evening ahead, whether I like it or not - web work, homework, and if I get these done possibly some writing. Get up tomorrow and start the whole merry-go-round again!
