anotheranon: (quizzical)
Watched a tv show that profiled the creation of Disney World's new project, Expedition Everest, a multi-million dollar "authentic" Nepalese village and mini-Everest, complete with Yeti. And, oh yeah - a roller coaster :P

In addition to whatever snarky comments I could make about Disney painstakingly reproducing the Himalayas in FL (so that Americans need never leave their own country to see the world), I was also... stunned? Disappointed? Awed, but not in a good way? at the expense and efforts being taken to replicate the terrain and architecture down to the last detail. I hope they're documenting everything, because it strikes me that in thousands of years, future generations will otherwise assume that Disney World was certainly, surely some sort of religious temple complex, because no culture would spend so much time, effort, and material goods on something as frivolous as entertainment.

Mark my words - future humans flying around in their spaceships will automatically assume that Mickey Mouse was some sort of god. Elvis too :P
