In my meanderings re: an old pet subject, the Loch Ness Monster, I found this picture (2nd one down) that the researcher claims could possibly be a monster carcass lying ~300ft down on the floor of the loch.

While I'm ready to admit that that lump looks very much like a felled plesiousaur, I am very skeptical - the researcher, Rines, may be accomplished and educated, but he has no background in biology, and no physical samples were taken. Besides, even my own limited knowledge tells me that submerged carcasses typically float to the surface.

Tempting though it would be to contemplate alternatives, I suspect that it's a conveniently shaped pile of mud or rotting wood pictured. Any chance to prove otherwise has been effectively blown by not grabbing it as soon as it was found.

Any thoughts from the more scientific of y'all out there?

Spent a lot of Saturday on the sofa getting over the last dregs of infection and fever. Still on the antibiotics which tear a hole in my stomach, but at least I can finally breathe :)

Sunday D. and I were well enough to get out and see H2G2.

no real spoilers, but clipping for those who would rather be surprised )

Also finally received my copy of English Handwriting 1400-1650 and have been going through it with a magnifying glass to try and teach myself to read the medieval alphabets. It's tricky because a number of the facsimiles have such damned small text, and in all time periods some people just have crappy handwriting :P I think I might be getting used to the yogh="gh" and thorn="th", so I'm trying not to look too hard at the Wiki entries lest I get intimidated :P

And why am I wasting my valuable time on this? Because I want to see if I can :P

Also recieved my books for the database class, which I was nervous about opening until I knew absolutely, positively they were the right ones - break the seal and no returns, so if they're not right I'm out ~$90. I got to the class site and am reassured that these are correct, so I'll be cracking those this week.
