Mar. 14th, 2005 08:01 pmThis weekend I took advantage of a going-out-of-home-business sale by one of my friends, and picked up a rapier (!!) for $10 (!!!)
It's almost too big for my hands! Elaborate basket hilt, very broad steel blade (slightly bent; easily straightened out by stomping, in the time honored fencer tradition :P) It's intended for display, but is not so precious that it can't be drilled with.
Only reservation - it weighs a lot - several lbs. heavier than the rapiers I've used at practice. This could turn out to be a good thing (practice with the heavier weapon = much easier when you pick up the "regular size") but it sure as hell brings my unevenness into high relief: I can do a few lunges with my right arm, but can barely do one with my left :/
No pix (as yet?); if it ultimately turns out to be just too heavy to use it still looks damn good!
