thinking pink
Feb. 18th, 2004 06:50 amAs I cruised through the mall Monday, it struck me how very timely and appropriate the Pink Project is.
I've learned to expect pastels to flood the stores long about January, when all of the spring clothing comes in (extended discussion on why fashion seasons are staggered out of all alignment with earthly seasons is another post). The closer you get to Easter, the worse it gets and then it moves onto summer white and brights soon after.
But no, the trend this spring is definitely pink - Victoria's Secret is flooded with it (along with hot orange and turquoise - not necessarily together). Claire's (teen accessory shop where I was looking at cheapie rhinestones) has pink fluffy, feathery things and pinkish variations of everything else. Even Bebe, the bastion of undersized Eurochic wear, is all black and pink.
I don't like pink. What's more, it doesn't look good on me. The livid, brain-busting fuschia we're using for our project is just passable on me, but far better as a hair color.
I got my hair cut yesterday and had thought to put in hot pink highlights to match the dress - thought it would be fun for CC (even though I'll be wearing a blonde wig when in costume). Now I'm suspecting that this would be serious, blinding overkill, and am leaning towards an un-pink color. Maybe even natural (shock horror!)
