Found an interview with the LOTR "Fighting Styles Designer" discussing how he designed the fighting styles for each of the races of Middle Earth. I gather from the article that a great deal of the swordplay was based on historical martial arts, and that the differences were inspired by Tolkein's descriptions of the differences between the different peoples' values, musical/artistic styles, etc. - Can anyone tell me how the fighting in the movies measures up to descriptions in the book? All I know is that I was impressed with this guy's results! (Tangential note - the rest of the Swordforum site is pretty cool as well, I just wish they'd update it!)
Also found very slick reproductions here and here. All are beautiful, but I prefer the Elven weapons for sheer aesthetics - just as well, because these are all too pretty to fight with (weep)! A tragic waste, but I guess that's why they made the miniaturized versions.
