Had a wonderfully quiet day :)

Spent most of it reading my Christmas eve gift (tradition in my family is to give books on Xmas Eve. This started as a means of keeping the kids in bed while the parents "played Santa", but my sister and I expanded it to include bookworms of all ages). The Island of Lost Maps discusses the theft of priceless old maps and the apprehension of the thief, with an overview of the history of cartography thrown in. Rather appropos, given my recent reading of "1421" and the "Tartar Relation" that heavily involve maps, lost and disputed.

We opened gifts as well; despite our efforts to keep a modest holiday our family still sent things. Noteworthy: D. got a deluxe Scrabble board that my mom got him as a guess; turns out he's been eyeing it for quite awhile :)

My sister went beyond the call of duty: before he died, she collected from my dad all of the old super-8 home movies, and had them burned to DVD. I watched part of it, but wonderful, funny, and nostalgic as they are it's still kind of melancholy to watch just yet. My parents look so young, particularly my dad.

I didn't lay around all day; around 2 I was seized with a "flat place crisis" and cleaned out the guest room/office. I can now see the floor (all my half.com listings are now in the basement pending their purchase) and even the bed (filed all my receipts, bills, etc). I even dusted (!)

Also puttered around online a bit (of course :P) and found a couple of fun links: Grrlscout with obnoxious t-shirts (I really need the java junkie one), and Sapphire and Sage's Renaissance jewelry - girdles, brooches, etc. (pretty!!!)

Going to get back to that book. Tomorrow I might slink out to the JoAnn's sale in search of drafting supplies ([livejournal.com profile] geekchick - $0.99 Simplicity patterns again!), or play Scrabble with D. :)
