notes re: the upcoming war
Mar. 18th, 2003 08:03 pm.. and it is going to happen, probably within a matter of days.
I'm more irritated and frustrated and aware that this is so-not-a-good idea than I can say.
I don't think Bush & Co. demonstrated that Saddam Hussein is an immediate threat to the U.S. or its allies.
I also don't think that the administration has offered solid proof of a link between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein.
I think that a pre-emptive strike against a sovereign nation (even if the sovereign is someone as terrible as Hussein) sets a dangerous precedent in international relations.
I think projected U.S. casualties have been substantially underestimated.
I really do not like the idea of sending American troops in when the reason for being there isn't clear.
But we're going over anyway.
I will probably make jokes in poor taste and be overly sarcastic when/if I post/discuss the upcoming events - it's a sad, childish way to deal with stress, but it seems to be my default reaction, so there it is, you're warned.
