news of the past few days
Feb. 9th, 2003 01:29 pmI finally test-ran the Xev outfit. Got many compliments and offers for commissions (which I don't do, but I did offer to show folks how to make things). Some of the backing peeled off of one of my gauntlets, but it's nothing that can't be fixed quickly with an iron. Everything else stayed together, though I noticed some fitting adjustments that I should make. I was mostly comfortable, if a bit chilly (I wore it with a long velvet coat I made a few years ago). The wig was perhaps the most uncomfortable, if only because I had to keep brushing hair out of my face, something I'm NOT used to!
Right now I'm sitting at my computer, looking at some tickets I reserved on Expedia to Toronto and debating whether to go ahead and properly book. I am on a writing list, and, in the middle of a really great storyline, we somehow all decided that we should meet in person, an idea I thorougly agreed with (and still do). While I'm looking forward to it, I'm also very nervous (hence my sitting and THINKING about the reservation). I've talked to only one of these women on the phone, and I don't even know the real names of many of the others, yet I'm going to be spending a long weekend with them in a city I've never been to. There are no reasons to fear for my safety, but the thrill of getting to meet these folks is tempered by apprehension, as we could all get along famously or drive each other batty. Guess I best go dig out my passport (did I mention that I cannot BELIEVE I'm doing this?).
Made vindaloo again, the vindaloo that was SOOOO good that D. couldn't stop thinking about it, and that burns all the way down but is so tasty that we'll happily eat Pepcid AC chasers so we can enjoy it. We need to check out the local Indian restaurant - this stuff takes over an hour to cook!
( short Buffy spoiler )
Think I will go and do repairs to the costume and stew over my plane tickets for a couple more hours before I grit my teeth and book.

Update 6:19 PM: I just booked the non-refundable tickets. I'm heading to the Great White North (!)
