Went to H. and D.'s last night for our annual Christmas party with our friends.

It was fun! I got to meet [livejournal.com profile] rivka, who I had only known previously through [livejournal.com profile] geekchick's and [livejournal.com profile] curiousangel's LJs - lovely person. Also got to see K. for the first time in a LONG time - the blond hair was a shock but it works for her. Also met B.'s dad, who appears when you look up "nice little old man" in the dictionary.

I'm glad I got to catch up with people. Even though most of us are in the same city, the traffic compounds distances between us and it's very rare that we all get to see each other at the same time. Despite my many misgivings about the holiday, I AM glad that it provides a reason for everyone to get to a central location.

We ate H.'s fantastic lentil soup and K.'s fatal chocolate cherry dome of doom. The gift exchange was lots of fun, especially Dennis the dog's reaction to K.'s kitten toy ("let's turn around, Chumley"). As expected, everyone was surprising and inventive. My friends are tres cool :)

I was very tired by the time we left, a feeling further exaggerated by wine (note to self - drinking in winter when one is already tired may not be a great strategy), and slept far too late today (but that's what weekends are for, right?)

For part of D.'s gift we will be going on the Spy Drive on 1/11 - it covers the espionage history of the nation's capital and should be quite interesting!

I am still tired from staying up last night - trying out some l-phenylalanine to see if it provides energy/clarity as advertised but nothing yet.

D. has recently brought his portable putting strip out of storage. Turns out his current project involves a lot of waiting for code to compile so he takes advantage of the time and practices his putt. This makes me happy - he enjoys golfing but never takes the time for it.

The cats are fascinated, particularly Spice who keeps trying to graze on the Astroturf strip. And the golf balls themselves are a big hit.
