taking care of business...
Sep. 22nd, 2001 12:48 pmI'm pleased to say I just finished scanning the 3rd of my maybe 10 binders of magazine clips. I see the space opening up on my shelves..
I'm trying to get some things done today - I am prone to going out to shop or drive around when I really should be getting things finished around here first. As it is, I have a headache that screams either cold or allergies so I don't exactly feel like going out, so this helps.
I've had time while scanning to read the transcript to Bush's Thursday speech (I was at fencing and missed the broadcast). Its a good speech in the sense that it is reassuring, but IMHO Bush is not forthcoming enough about how bad things could really get. He also grossly simplifies the entire situation and gives a flat out wrong analysis of why we are terrorist targets (I hardly think that jealousy was a prime motivator for the terrorists). This notion of a "Committee of Homeland Security" is great in theory, because the U.S. really should be more concious of possible terrorist threats, but I still have a niggling feeling that it will be entirely too easy for the powers that be to overreact and severely reduce the freedoms and privacy of American citizens in the name of safety.
So I guess you could say I didn't like the speech, but I think Bush probably had to make the speech to let The People think he's doing something.
