Matrix: Reloaded
May. 26th, 2003 10:31 pmI enjoyed it! If nothing else, it was visually spectacular. I think that whoever designed Zion had it very well thought out, there seemed nothing guessed or cut-cornered about it - I found this plausible as a physical world given the story. And the soundtrack - let's just say that I hope it brings tribal/world techno back into style (Juno Reactor did half of it anyway - woo!) Favorite track - the "rave" (oh, come on, you just KNOW it is one) in Zion.
Gripes: I think they tried to cram in too much, especially towards the end. I also thought that it was ended at an awkward point - I think it should have stopped right after Neo saved Trinity. Maybe in the context of the 3rd film (and I did stick around for the teaser after the credits), it will seem like a cleaner cut.
Costumes: again, Zion was "just so", but the clothes worn in the Matrix were just as stunning - I think the threat of numerous Agent Smiths would be worth it if I could just DRESS like that, every day of my life :P The one thing that got to me was that Neo's floor-length coat had no back kick-pleat as far as I could see - looks great but for combat is woefully inconvenient! Only real gripe - the white "twins" dreads had such strong demarcation at the hairline that it was obvious that they were wigs.
Agent Smithn: D. tells me this was the most expensive part of the movie, and I believe it! Except for a few tiny moments where Neo is obviously computer generated, this scene looks and moves realistically. He also provided some much needed comic relief as this is a somewhat exhausting film to watch.
The Story: Not as intricate as the first, but then, you went into "Reloaded" already knowing about the difference between the real world and the Matrix, so there were no truly huge surprises. Again, I think I'm going to need to see the whole trilogy before I know how it all goes together.
So yeah - I enjoyed it, and look forward to part 3.
