"Long" meaning "stretching out on all available tile/linoleum in a futile attempt to cool off." Even poor little Kisia is shedding so much that she hacked up a furball yesterday. We're not running the A/C until it gets really hellish, in an attempt to keep costs down. I'm wearing shorts for the first time in years, and as long as I'm not overly active during daylight hours I'm ok. D., not so much :(

I spent much of yesterday dealing with some acid reflux, which ruined my plans to go to [livejournal.com profile] geekchick's because it's really hard to feel social while enduring that "creeping" feeling in your throat. I did manage to drag out long enough to replace my coffeemaker, but then napped most of the early evening. At least I've caught up on my sleep :/

I'm (rather sensibly, I think) taking a break from starting a new sewing project and trying to do some research. I picked up Jane Ashelford's Art of Dress with the intent of reading just the section on Regency/Empire styles, but ended up starting at the beginning and being truly impressed. I've had the book for awhile, and while it has great pictures this was the first time I'd read the text - each historical period has 2 chapters, one describing the fashions themselves and the other discussing the effects of trade, ease of travel, economics, fashionable royals etc. on the spread of trends and availability of styles. Wish I'd opened it up sooner!

My bedtime reading (as "Art of Dress" is too cumbersome to drag to bed) is The Master of All Desires by Judith Merkle Riley. It's a sort of historical paranormal mystery, and a well written read.

I have some cleaning up and putting away to do now that the sun has set.
