(no subject)
Oct. 18th, 2001 10:33 amMusings of the day....
Went to the 2nd half of a wire-wrapping jewelry SCA thang last night. This particular style of wire and beads is something I could really get into - its simple and fast, and just perfect for long winter nights while watching a movie.
Very interesting subject and lovely people (again), but I am never at ease when socializing with new people, no matter how nice they are. According to this EQ test I'm quite good at theory, but not fantastic in practice - IMHO this sounds a lot like me, even considering that this test is simple and hardly scientifically based.
Sometimes I wish I could just hide out with my books, various handcrafts and cats, but unfortunately despite my misanthropic leanings I actually LIKE the company of some people, however inept I am.
I signed up at Costume Classroom for an Elizabethan Men's history/construction class. I was hoping that they would cover earlier than 1580 but I'm sure that anything I learn in this class will still be applicable to the earlier Tudor period.
I'm ambivalent about the SCA event I'm planning to attend this weekend - the weather has gone crap (i.e., cold) and I'm not sure that even with my layers of Tudor gown I'll be warm enough. I really do want to see the siege engine demo and the A&S competition though. Maybe I'll just go later in the day.
Been following the anthrax mess in the news. Its certainly sneaky and frightening but I think everyone is panicking too much - its fairly easy to treat if you get antibiotics right away. I'm more disturbed by the notion that everyone is stocking up on Cipro (drug-resistant bacteria, anyone?). No, I'll save my panic for if they find a way to transport something like Ebola or smallpox through the mails. Meanwhile I'm waiting impatiently for a book on DC ghosts I ordered to get here, likely held up by the closer scrutiny by the USPS. In October my reading interests go all paranormal....
<bangs head on table> got to stay awake, hopefully without the caffiene. Damned shorter days...
