Once again I find myself on the wrong side of the pond while Cool Stuff happens at the V&A in London:

Elizabethan Embroidery and Textiles and Clothes and Culture of Elizabeth's England, both presented by the Tudor Group historical interpretation society.

I started to be interested in the Tudor era (roughly 1485-1603) mostly because the kings and queens of the time were such interesting personalities (Henry VIII and his 6 wives, Mary and burning Protestants, Elizabeth being multitalented and independent). Then as I read the history I learned about the flowering of the English Renaissance, the politics and discoveries of the time. The clothing is very geometric and simple in the early 16th century, but got increasingly elaborate towards the end of Elizabeth's reign. When I decided to do historical clothing it was what appealed to me most (though I can muster an interest in almost any time period, real or imagined!)

What started your interest in the dark ages? You mention the clothes and mysticism, but what first really got your attention?
