Today I got out and about for the first time since before Thanksgiving and got all of the supplies for a pair of stays:
I have already prepped all the fabric (of course, that's the easy part, the washing machine does it for you) and hope to start tomorrow. I just hope I can stay motivated enough to make this in a reasonable amount of time - much of it will be done by hand in front of the tv, so I can at least *pretend* I'm slacking.
I also prepared some of the fabric I got in LA - cotton sheeting with a ukiyo-e-style woodblock print that I am planning to use for a short kimono. I think I can draft the pattern myself.
It was good to get out of the house, especially as most of the day was sunny and I think I've been missing the light. Still, I've decided that one of my resolutions for the coming year is to spend less time shopping as a means of alleviating cabin fever - I seldom buy anything and when I do it's something I don't need. If I'm going out of the house time would be better spent exercising, or going to a museum, or hitting the library - anything but spending money because it's easy and the shopping is there..
- Black Chinese brocade with beautiful silver and purple butterflies
- Black twill tape for lacing
- Black silk cord for busk
- Thread for sewing and finishing lacing holes
- Denim for lining/reinforcing
- Cable ties for boning
