Got back this evening. We had a good (if saturated!) visit.
I was prepared for my dad to look terrible - he had lost a lot of weight in the hospital. I was also prepared for him to need to take naps a lot, as his illness causes him to tire out easily. He was neither - he started eating regularly last week and is slowly getting back to his normal size (minus some - he says he needed to lose weight), and his strict schedule of medication helps him keep a more normal wake/sleep cycle. The only real problem I noticed was a tendency for his speech to slur right before he was due for his next dose.
He and my mom were doing well. They fuss over their cats - or should I say kittens? They're 18-month-old Maine Coons that take a long time to mature - they still have oversized kitten-feet and big kitteny eyes, even though they are at least 9-10 lbs each. I think having pets again has been good for them (Iams is right).
My sister came to town as well, which is good because I'd not seen her in over a year. She seemed healthy and happy.
Mostly we talked the entire weekend, with a short outing to a local discount bookseller (I behaved, I swear!). This is just what our family does when we get together - several days of high-intensity catching up. We tell a lot of the same old stories and reminisce, and it makes little sense to anyone not used to it. It can be draining though - turned out that I was the one getting tired out and having a sore voice from talking too much!
We also kept up with the news concerning what is happening here - in the airport we saw the story about the 13-year-old shot in Bowie, sombering news just as we were about to go home.
Tired now. Need to go move over some laundry and rest. Maybe I'll add to this later.
