Local shootings: I am fine, and despite my usually cynical attitude in the face of everyone else's overreacting, I have to admit that this made me rather nervous - I am familiar with the areas of at least 2 of the shootings and it's all together just too close to home. I'm not at fencing right now because local schools canceled their evening activities, so the community center where I fence is closed.

Saddam and Dubya go one on one: tongue in cheek or not, this is possibly the best suggestion I've heard so far - the Iraqi people don't get carpet bombed and if both men are decent shots both countries will have reasons to celebrate (note to any Homeland Security people reading - I am JOKING). In all seriousness, I am still not entirely convinced that the U.S. should go to war with Iraq because of something Saddam MIGHT do or MIGHT have - I want proof, and I wish that the U.S. government would just shut up and let the UN find that proof. That, and I really don't care for the notion that the United States military can go running in like Rambo without a jockstrap just whenever it feels like it.

High school Satanism club provokes parental outrage: well, duh, that's what teenagers do. Though frankly I am outraged as well - despite these kids' protestations that Satanism isn't a religion, they seem to be playing that view - if this club is really supposed to be about "sharing opinions and views" they should just call it Debate Club or similar. Religion has no place in public schools - not even secularized Satanism.

I got mail from C. this afternoon saying that his building in Germantown was locked down and they weren't supposed to be going out for lunch or anything. Frankly, I'm spooked too. I caught myself being slightly nervous on the way home, overreaction or not.
