geekchick, curiousangel, C., and M. to the local Renaissance Festival. I put on my full Tudor gear, dress, stays, hood, everything. I wasn't too uncomfortable, though it was obvious that my stays were too big as they "stuck out" somewhat. It was also odd to have my arms more or less pinned to my sides, as the tight uppersleeves of the period didn't allow for much movement (no cheerleaders in Henry VIII's England). Having said all this, it was still a relief to change into a t-shirt and jeans when I got home.
We saw the Mediaeval Baebes perform, and I was quite impressed - modern variations of Medieval/Renaissance madrigals. I liked them, but I think D. will like them more - I picked up a postcard with a list of their albums on it so he'll know what to look for.
Good people watching, as always - some of the more accurate costumes were VERY, VERY good, some of the less so were very, very fun! It's interesting to see how modern folks make a twist on historic clothing, especially all the many ways one can build an outfit around a corset, chainmail, or a good pair of boots. Or some/all of these.
Today I mostly sewed and mended. About halfway through the day the "fuzziness" in my left eye made me take my contacts out. I still can't tell whether it was dirty contacts or another scratch on my lens (the one in my eye, not the contact lens), but I am reminded of all the reasons I hated wearing glasses - the pressure great enough to reshape my already bad nose and give me a headache (like now), the constant sliding down/pushing back, and the fact that they are never as strong as my lenses no matter how much my opthamologist assures me otherwise (I can drive in them, but my ability to see details further than a couple of feet away is for shit).
I think I'm going to go to bed because reading is about the only thing I CAN do in my windshields for the face.
