These are the old drapes I'm using for my fantasy pirate coat. Right side is left, wrong side is right. Debating which to use facing outwards:

both sides of the fabric

Right side pro: redder, con: shiny and fake looking. Wrong side pro: looks like it's been at sea for a year, con: duller, less exciting. What do you think?

[Poll #1753347]

Of course, if I get tired of one I can always take it apart and put it back together the other way 'round :P

*Not the point, but I still don't want the finished project to scream "POLYESTER!" at ten feet.

I voted, but I really think you should use the side w/ the most consistent color (the least inconsistent sun fading).

Most of the fading is at the edges, and I'm laying out the pattern to avoid these as much as possible.

Alas, what fading there is is more obvious on the right side because it's darker.

And then you can tell everyone you're a turncoat! ;p

(my vote was for the pinker side, not only for the been-at-sea-for-a-while look, but because a pirate's fancy coat would most likely have been looted and thus seen a fair amount of wear and sun before he acquired it ... just gotta keep the buttons brightly polished to compensate)

I agree with JLS. The left side is more "piratey" to me!

LOL! Actually, I was voting for the sample on the right. ;-)

Right side! Most stuff folks wear tend towards "dark" having the lighter version looks more unique. And I think the wear-and-tear will make it look more "pirate-y." :)
Best,

The fact that mid-range/light color would be unusual helps sell me on the lighter side. My inner anti-pink stance is challenged! But a pirate in dusty rose would certainly be unique...
