My tentative next project is a POTC-style pirate coat. I'm using the Simplicity POTC pattern from a few years back.

Which requires 28(!) 1-1 1/4" shank metal buttons.

Does anyone know where I could find that many at that size? Ebay is finding some lots that large, but they're all too small. I'm not aiming for historical accuracy.

There's a fabric shop on US 40 in Catonsville MD that has lots and lots and lots of buttons. I'd look there, if I were attempting such a thing. Might be further than you care to drive though.

If the other links don't have what you need, I've a buttons (and beads) supplier list in the fibre arts section of my webpage.

There's also a collection of Pirate Gear & Garb links at the Talk Like a Pirate website.

You are not wrong :P They can also be heavy and drag down the front of the coat, so some reinforcement is in order!

This pattern gets me off easy though - reproduction Jack Sparrow coats call for 46 (http://www.houseofanoria.com/POTC_JackSparrowStudy.htm).
