crap timing

Am fighting off a possible kidney infection. As of now only feeling like heck and am medicated/resting but I know the hell to which it can escalate, so I'm angrily staying home from work.

Angry because I need to be busy this time of year, angry because I want to fence my last lesson of the year tomorrow and must be able to fly comfortably on Friday. D. has been an angel, getting me every formulation of cranberry juice under the (weak, cold, winter) sun and Spice has been sympathetic enough to let me have repeated pets. C'mon Cipro, come on...

Not all is lost - I've had the chance to read (Changeless, On Monsters), and was even inspired to pick back up the Regency gown after watching the Lord of the Ring costume design extras. I may not want to costume for money, but I wish I had Ngila Dickson's resources (her own dye house!!) I was further along than I remembered and will likely finish the dress soon after the new year.

I hate extra sticky cilia! (what my last trip to the doc's re: UTI taught me was that one of the big causes of UTIs is extra sticky sticky cilia (microscopic hairs) that grab on to germs like there's no tomorrow.) Yay for efficient bodies! Boo for too many germs.

Hope you feel better quickly!

I need to work on a regency gown if I'm going to have something to wear to the Spring Ball I mentioned earlier.

Thanks for the well wishes :) Don't know about my own cilia status, all I know is that if I let the ick crawl up into my kidneys I won't be able to walk. DO NOT WANT!

Re: Regency - I'm using the La Mode Bagatelle pattern & it's fairly simple and goes quickly if you want to borrow (I don't think it's in print anymore). I do recommend making the correct Regency stays though, as they really "make" the correct silhouette.

I've got a costume book from the Bath Costume Museum that a friend brought me that talks about the papier mache pasties women would wear over their real boobs but under the bodice of their gowns. They even had three dimensional nipples so women would get the right look without showing any of their own assets off. I'll have to find it so I can show it to you the next time we get together.

I'd like to at least look at your pattern, thank you. Seeing how something is put together is a much better starting point than from scratch.

Regency stays look so very cute to me; it's like a training corset! ;-p (This is the current corset I'm drooling over.)

P.S. I'm so glad we got to the exhibit at the NPG when we did. Remember the big wall sized portrait of that guy in bed in the very back? The artist who painted it wants it removed as a protest to the video of the buggy crucifix being removed.
