supersize me
Oct. 7th, 2010 10:27 pmD. and I just got a king size bed. And we managed to excavate the guest room sufficiently that it can house guests again :)
Procurement was spurred by my sister's impending visit over Halloween weekend. It was the much needed excuse to clean out the guest room and get rid of my college full size. We figured while we were moving furniture around, now would be as good a time as any to get a new bed and move the old to the guest room.
The king size part D.'s idea, as it never occurred to me we might need or want anything that big. However, with D. being a big guy who likes to spread out, I started to see how a queen might seem cramped to him, especially in summer.
I made quick work of research and Sunday afternoon we went to local shops for lie down testing, picked one, and had it delivered/installed Wednesday. The delivery people were also kind enough to move the queen to the guest room and the full to recycling.
Triumph for all! The king really does give us more stretching space and doesn't overwhelm the bedroom as I feared it would. The queen, while only 6" or so larger than the full, is in better shape and means any visiting couples won't have to sleep in each other's pockets. Best of all, this novel "pillow top" on new mattresses is a boon for my abused joints: all the support of a firm mattress but actually molds around my shoulder and hip so I don't wake up feeling pinched or compressed.
So we get a good night's rest and so do any future guests!
