Not much new news for folks who read my last Twitter feed. The snow stopped and as I type this it's a pretty sunny day out there.

I didn't have enough sugar for cookies, so I made biscuits instead. Mmm, biscuits.

D. is stuck in the city at a hacker con. I expect him tonight but I'll be damned if I know where he can park. The parking lot has been plowed - several times - but most cars are still snowed in, including my own. I tried to dig it out yesterday but didn't plan very well, as I found myself in hip-deep snow (the snowbank behind my car is probably a yard deep) with a huge shovelfull that I couldn't toss anywhere reachable without getting in some other car's way.

I did clean off our front porch (tossed the excess snow into our yard - we may watch it melt until April but it affects only us) and am tickled that I was able to do so :) Mind, my back and legs felt it last night.

Like [livejournal.com profile] ladyaelfwynn I wonder if we're having work tomorrow. Sure, the storm is over but some places were out of power and I don't know how much has been plowed. That, and we're expecting to be crapped on again in a few days, so I'm wondering if all this shoveling is going to be in vain :/

Shoveling now is not in vain. It means a thinner layer of snow to shovel later.

That's what I'm banking on. That and it's good exercise - yeah, I've become that person (http://publicschoolintelligentsia.com/?p=538) :P

Ditto on the shoveling now being worthwhile. Growing up in the Ontario snowbelt, the rule was that you started shoveling while the snow was still falling, several times if necessary. Snow, especially wet snow, is heavy stuff and doing it in stages like this helps prevent (or at least reduce) muscle stiffness, injuries, and coronaries.

Not to mention that, if you live somewhere with frequent snowfall and know the local drifting patterns and how they work, you can actually plan your snow piling to help reduce the stuff piling up where people need to walk (thus cutting down on your future shoveling).
