I have a few pretty skirts that I like and are flattering. I also have fairly decent legs from luck and years of fencing.

Unfortunately, I also get cold easily and my shapely legs are perpetually dinged/bruised from aforementioned fencing.

Clearly if I want to wear anything above the knee after September in this life again, I need to [flinch] reconsider tights.

I used to wear them a lot as a teenager, but in the late '80s I found them with a lot of cotton content and was usually wearing them with shorts. I have a couple of nylon pair for emergencies but I hate them because they pinch and my skirts stick to them.

However, times do change and I'm finding tights with cotton content again (I'm considering these and these).

If there's such an animal as a cling-free slip I'll consider that too - I never met a "static free" slip in my youth that didn't generate static like crazy, but if there's some wild new synthetic that actually works as advertised I'd love to know.

Any experiences, recommendations, remedies etc. appreciated.

Don't know how available they are down there, but there is such a thing as "winter-weight" tights ... weightwise a kind of a cross between pantyhose and seamless leggings with feet. When I've owned them they've been warm and comfortably sized (can't tell you fabric content off the top of my head ... but can add that they also are great for extra insulation without added bulk under pants on really frigid days when you have to be outdoors for a while)

I've got several links to sock/stocking/tights shops in my Shopping Outside the Mainstream list ... you might find some good style/brand name leads in those.

And I'll second that natural-fibre slips are the way to go to avoid cling ... synthetics, no matter how slippery they feel in the store, rarely work well. (microfibre might be an exception ... hmmmm)

See now, the idea of "silk slips" is really appealing - they sound luxurious rather than itchy/nasty.

And I can always wear 'em as summer skirts or PJs if they still don't cut the static....

Silk and silk satin are the best way to go (yeah, you can tell I'm old enough to remember when slips worked properly ***grin***). And you do know the trick of improving the performance of slips by wearing them inside-out, right?
