To steal a line from Pratchett's Death, "CATS ARE NICE". Mine are fine creatures and good, mellow companions. I don't exaggerate when I say that having them around helps keep me sane - they are restful and well rested, and much as I may joke around that they only keep D. and I around to cater to any whims they might have, they are are actually incredibly undemanding. Spice is content to put her paw on my arm or shoulder to let me know she's happy to have me around. Kisia wants a few minutes dedicated nose-to-nose time in bed, and then she's happy to sleep between my feet.
And no, they aren't child substitutes - even when I call them "furkids" or myself "catmom" I'm acutely aware that having pets is far easier than having children. They'll never want or need designer clothes, the keys (to the car or liquor cabinet), a college education, or the social skills to get along in the wider world :)
Food: I am a foodie by association. More specifically, I like and appreciate good preparation, fresh ingredients, and (some) new things, when OTHER PEOPLE cook them :P I do cook, but it's mostly basic stuff, and despite my revelations in Italy I lack the time/passion to create the time to do much of this myself. Every now and again I'll do something special but by and large cooking is a chore for me :/
But you really didn't ask about cooking as much as about food. Lately I'm in the mood for a good steak. I've asked D. to take me out for my birthday for a well-prepared side of beef because I can't remember the last time I've had a sirloin or similar.
Yeah... red meat and fresh salad. Some kind of carbohydrate would be incidental if I could get those two together on a plate :)
