We took Spice to the vet yesterday to have her teeth cleaned.

More specific: I dropped her off, D. picked her up. This sets me up as the Villain and him as the Hero, but it all evens out. This is because the vet also found ear/eye infections, so in addition to the (relatively easy - it goes in food) process of giving her her antibiotic, we also have to put in 2 kinds each eye and ear drops.

Twice a day, every day. For the next week.

So yes, we both wind up bad guys because it's near impossible to trap/medicate on one's own.

I hate doing it because it scares her and I can't explain what's going on, but also because selfishly I want my cat to, you know, not fear us. Like us, even.

I know it has to be done and that yes, she's "just a pet" (but every pet owner knows that "just" is so much posturing), but still.

My deepest sympathies on the trials and tribulations of cat medicating. I give 4 pills and 2 eyedrops every day. I have 12 cats and feel like I am running a clinic. Hang in there. Cats have the mentality and attention span of a 2 year old. They do get over it.

No such thing as "just a pet"

Once the days of medicating are over, a few dabs of tuna juice (or whatever her favourite is) on your wrists and behind your ears and you'll be a Hero again (or at least elevated to your previous level of barely tolerated)

Oh, I liberally apply tuna flakes as treats after each medication session!

She's actually pretty friendly if I leave her alone afterwards for half an hour or so.

I still hate doing it.
