Perhaps not news to half the people reading this, but news to me: Costume Con 2009 is going to be in my neck of the woods (PDF)! Good news for me as I'd fallen out of the CC loop after not being able to go for a couple of years; having it in my own backyard means I have no excuse not to go in a couple of years.

Given that CC welcomes space cadets, living history afficionados [sic], reenactors, textile designers, theater designers, fursuiters, mascots, cosplayers, fantasy costumers, costume professionals and folks who just like to dress up, I know some of y'all reading who may not have been to one might want to.

There's a photo archive of all past competition entries and winners at the main site - I double-dog dare all of ya to try and find me in there ;)

Disclaimer: not affiliated with production, just a very satisfied past attendee :)

P.S. And [livejournal.com profile] shemhazai too! :-) (who I didn't know at that time)

I will NEVER forget you in pink, my dear. My inner-Gigi was thrilled to the core, LOL! This sounds like major fun. As a veteran of countless sci-fi costume cons, this just makes my toesies curl!!!

This sounds like fun!

I probably wouldn't compete. (I make outfits to wear, not win prizes.) My outfits are my art and prizes are irrelevant.

I actually have a very weird relationship with competition. I don't mind putting something in a competition when I'm looking for feedback, when I want to know what's wrong with it. When it's something I've done just for fun, I don't want to know.

I can get uber competitive and don't really like what it does to my personality. (I get really bitchy if I don't win.) It's actually one of the reasons I'm not a theatrical costumer (what I studied in college). I butted heads with a director and wanted kill him and the actors for what they did to my little pieces of art. I realized that if I kept that up, I'd be dead from ulcers by the time I was 40. So, I picked something as fun but way less stressful. ;-P

Sounds like just wandering about would be fun adn I'd get to indulge my penchant for changing every few hours!

Competition is part of it, but not the only part - there's shopping, wearing/watching hall costumes, workshops, parties and general comraderie...

I probably wouldn't have competed on my own but it was a group of us just out to be silly and in that capacity we were excellent!
