Haven't been sitting idle - dig the new pix!

It took several fittings to arrive at a muslin and pattern I was happy with. My shoulders are wider across the back than the front, and somewhat rounded besides, so I had to tweak the arm openings a lot - a higher, tighter opening than the original suits my shape. And if it looks asymmetrical, it's because I am - I assure you that made up it looks right on me. Behold:

Working with the vinyl hasn't been too difficult - it's thin, drapey garment weight and it's been possible to get trim, precise seams that flatten out nicely (cool iron with a muslin press cloth). Taking advice found over on
dressdiaries, I carefully rounded the side insets so there aren't obvious points at the bust.
The arm hole facing is hand sewn to assure that it stayed turned inside and lay flat.

I am deliberately using princess seams for the back instead of the central back seam of the original because multiple seams = better fit for my oddball shape :P
Other notes: I think the base color looks nice but lacks depth.
dreamtigress volunteered her time (thanks!) and did some experiments with samples I sent; she recommends a varnish of acrylic gloss mixed with brown leather dye. Taking one thing at a time, I'm going to wait until I've finished the construction phase before starting the surface embellishment phase, but I have the products on hand and will try and post pix of test scraps.
