Today I forgot to put on makeup.

I didn't realize it until I was already in the car, and at that point it was too late to turn around.

I took a quick look in the mirror and I looked ok - awake and not too broken out or shiny, which are the main reasons I wear any "paint" at all these days (concealer/powder).

Not that I don't love makeup: MAC is my anti drug and I have a couple of bags containing a rainbow of lipsticks and eyeshadows that are fun to play with from time to time. But I work in front of a computer all day and my office is semi-casual - there seems very little reason to put on lipstick, blush etc. when only my monitor is going to see it and no one else will care :P

As such, I'm starting to wonder if my fascination with makeup is just another species of my crow-like attraction to anything with bright/multiple colors (crayons, pastels, paint, etc.)

Also I suspect is my growing realization that makeup (and other girly stuff) is really time consuming and not always convenient. Heels = look great but impractical for most walking; skirts = same, and I'd have to shave more often (twice a week is about the maximum without drying out my legs. If I had lighter hair I'm not sure I'd bother at all).

And anyone who knows me is aware that I don't/can't do hair :P

Makeup for me these days is putting on moisturizer. It's the only thing that won't stain my clothes or rub off on my hands and get everywhere. I'm one of those people who nervously rubs their face a lot.

I'd rather get an extra half-hour of sleep than worry with the fun, girly stuff most days.

Worrying about girly stuff means loss of sleep. I never really did get into all the makeup, fixing your hair, dresses, and all that. Guess I'm just your average tomboy!

i like makeup - especially the drama of evening makeup. but for me, the most important thing is SPF moisteriser, a slick of gloss and mascara - and i work in a formal office!

The right moisturizer is crucial for general comfort, IMHO.

I'm also finding that having a chapstick in every floor of the house is vital in winter :/
