celebrities in Vivienne Westwood

There is one great reason to follow celebrities - they have the means/motive to wear gorgeous designer clothes that the rest of us can only dream about.

Of course, most of them dress in predictable Calvin Klein or Versace, which while beautiful gets kind of old.

Behold! Dita Von Teese had all her wedding gear done by Vivienne Westwood (large photos at the link, all worksafe) - I've got to give her major points on choosing a not-run-of-the-mill designer. And though Westwood's ballgowns are wonderful foofy huge skirted concoctions of miles of taffeta, if you scroll to the bottom you get to see what she does with traditional English tweed!

Sorry if I'm a bit effusive, I just think VW gets short shrift in the U.S., and she's one of my favorite designers. Shutting up now, to work on some sewing of my own...

That purple gown is stunning.

The tweed cape outfit towards the end of the article, do you mean? The notes say that's Moschino. I remember seeing that article and marvelling at the sheer number of outfits involved. =)

Ah - evidently not ALL her wedding gear, though the purple and white gowns are definitely Westwood. I'll have to read the notes more carefully, as I was so sure that tweed had to = Westwood. My bad :/

I have to admit - I'm not that familiar with Moschino's latest work. I remember his witty, confrontational-sloganed knitwear from the '80s but didn't anticipate trendy tweed. I shall have to investigate!

The gowns are definitely my favorite, but then I like the giant poofy dress sorta thing anyway. =) Of course it doesn't hurt that Dita can make anything look good, so far as I can tell. (Well, except for Marilyn Manson. Still not doing it for me, even with a stunning bride on his arm. XD)

It is kind of weird hearing that. Perhaps it is because I grew up overseas but VW has been a name I've been familiar with since the 80s. Big name in fashion - although I guess that is more from the UK influence. *shrugs* I guess your statement about her "short shrift" in the US kind of surprised me.

Where overseas did you grow up?

I've not ever seen Westwood sold outside of (maybe) Saks/Neimans. AFAIK her only American boutiques are in NYC, and I seldom see her featured in any of the U.S. fashion magazines. In truth, I do not know why this would be so, because as you say, she's a huge influence elsewhere.
