I spy....

Took D. to the Spy Museum for his birthday.

It was an eye opening trip, all around - not just because of the museum itself, but because of the neighborhood. The museum is built right on top of the former site of a record shop where D. used to pick up his rave tickets, and 10 years ago it was a bit of a sketchy neighborhood - no thru traffic, with the music shop right next to a really tacky wig shop - I remember him taking me there on my first trip here from GA. It was stunning how much I remembered once he pointed this out!

The museum itself was good. The gadgetry and material exhibits were excellent and the museum was laid out in a relatively logical manner. Some of the presentation was.. er, a bit gimmicky. All in all, we did spend almost 3 hours there, and despite the crowds ([twitch, twitch], but on a holiday weekend, what do you expect?) it was an interesting trip - if nothing else, it provides a good overview, with enough names, dates, and places that you can find lots of resources for further reading/research on your own, if you're so inclined. We liked, but all in all we recommend the spy bus tour we took a few years ago more.

One problem - much as I love museums, my back doesn't. Walking is fine for me, but it's the standing for more than a couple of hours at a time that really hurts. After a huge lunch/dinner I passed out reading for an hour or two, and I'm STILL sore! Going to go stretch out a bit before bed.
