Had to share:
Best Chocolate Stores in Washington DC - don't know how up to date it is, but it's a good starting point. I'm tentatively seeking a speciality/imported chocolatier akin to the fabulous deli/liquor store/gourmet food store in K.Zoo that was home to Dagoba lavender and ginger chocolates and other exotic blends of cacao and [insert flavorful thing here]. Choco-crawl, anyone?
thestuntkid: beautiful art of fetishy/exotic/alterna-women. I'm especially impressed by his grasp of perspective - VERY hard to get right. Some possibly not worksafe.
And back to the food: Naughty Curry (see a few days ago for link) suggests in their FAQs that the Indian groceries are a cheaper/better source for spices, so I decided to stop in mine and look at something other than the pre-mixed curry paste shelf.
Oh wow, and ever! Got a huge bottle each of garlic and ginger paste, and there are all kinds of seasonings (turmeric, chili, cumin [ground and seeds], black salt, mustard seeds etc. ad nauseum) with twice the amount for half the local grocery store price. Also needless to say huge bags of brown basmati rice (healthy and flavorful). And they're right across the street! Score!
